Constructions begins on Spring Farm Parkway

The NSW Government has begun construction of the $206 million Spring Farm Parkway Stage 1 project that will connect communities across Macarthur.

Premier of New South Wales Dominic Perrottet said the project is an important piece of infrastructure that will service the state’s fastest growing region.

“This is about building infrastructure across Greater Sydney that is going to unlock greater opportunities for NSW families,” Mr Perrottet said.

“A connected Macarthur region means a stronger local economy and more housing supply in an area that is expanding in population quicker than anywhere else across the state.

“Our sound economic management allows us to continue to invest in our community and deliver the roads and services that make a real difference to everyday life.”

Spring Farm Parkway will be a four lane divided road extending about 1km from Menangle Road, west over the Hume Motorway to Menangle Park Urban Release Area with new signalised intersections at Menangle Road.

The project will also upgrade approximately 600 metres of Menangle Road at Menangle Park and provide a shared pathway for pedestrians and cyclists.

Minister for Metropolitan Roads Natalie Ward said stages 1 and 2 combined will ultimately provide an essential East West link connection between Camden Bypass, the Hume Motorway and Menangle Road.

“This project provides direct access for Macarthur residents to the employment precincts across Greater Sydney,” Mrs Ward said.

“Current and future residents of Macarthur will soon have a Parkway that will cut travel time and provide a safer route on to the Hume Motorway.

“We have also planned to allow for future south facing access ramps to support growth in the area.”

Local member for Camden Peter Sidgreaves highlighted that this is a significant milestone in the NSW Government delivering for the people of Macarthur.

“Spring Farm Parkway will help us build new homes, create local jobs and improve transport connections across the region,” Mr Sidgreaves said.

Local member for Wollondilly Nathaniel Smith said this was a big step towards increasing road safety across the local region.

“This widened stretch of road will not only provide safety benefits for motorists going across the Hume Motorway but for pedestrians and cyclists as well,” Mr Smith said.

“Stage 1 is estimated to create over 100 jobs throughout the construction phase and it will be completed by the end of 2024.”

Stage 1 of the project has been funded through private developers, the Housing Acceleration Fund and the Jobs and Infrastructure Acceleration Fund.

Stage 2 is also progressing subject to funding which will complete the east-west link by connecting to Liz Kernohan Drive.
